"Cigarette butts are the single greatest source of ocean trash"
Cigarettes are an underestimated environmental issue.
Did you know that over 1 Billion smokers consume 6 Trillion cigarettes per year? That means over 18 Billion cigarette butts are disposed of every single day. Unfortunately a staggering number of them end up in our oceans. This is a problem.
Cigarette filters are made of plastic; specifically called cellulose acetate. When discarded, these filters can take up to 15 years to degrade. And when they do degrade, they break down into tiny pieces of plastic that are harmful. Our oceans, waterways and marine life are all severely impacted by the problem of traditional tobacco cigarettes. We're here to fix that.
Did you know?
One cigarette butt can contaminate up to 2 liters of water - containing ~4,700 toxic chemicals and harmful micro plastics.
Filters take over 10 years to degrade. Currently, 99.9% of cigarettes manufactuered are non-biodegradable.
Birds and fish mistake cigarette butts with food and die. They present a major threat to wildlife.
Children don't understand why they shouldn't play with cigarette butts or put them in their mouth.
Even flushing them down the toilet still presents a possibility to enter into our waterways.
Since 1986 only 60M cigarette butts have been collected. San Francisco alone spends $7.5M/year taxpayer dollars to clean up.
What if there was a solution?
(there is...)
Meet our biodegradable filter
Instead of using a traditional plastic-based filter, we've engineered a proprietary plant-based biodegradable filter that will significantly help in reducing our environmental impact.
Innovation meets impact
Our committment to improving environmental sustainability is evident through our innovation. While we still encourage customers to properly dispose, in the event our products are not - they present a far less potential for harm as they are 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Wood pulp, not plastic
Comprised primarily of wood pulp, our filters take 95% less time to degrade compared to traditional plastic cigarette filters. And when they do, no harmful plastics or chemicals are released.
A superior smoking experience
When testing our filter, it was very important to preserve an ideal smoking experience. Our TruFlow™ technology produces an ideal amount of airflow and smoke, while still absorbing and retaining smoke byproducts.
Hemp paper, because we care
In addition to our efforts to create a more sustainable cigarette, we use fully organic, unbleached hemp paper for the 'tube' of the cigarette. Whereas traditional cigarettes use a more harmful bleached paper. By using hemp paper, this helps to reduce harmful emissions in the manufacturing process and allows us to use more of the hemp plant - eliminating waste.
